Joy

The smell of freshly cut grass. Daisies. Blowing dandelions as I make a wish.

Babies who look at me on the bus, and for whatever reason, smile at me and giggle throughout the journey.

On a freezing cold day: a long soak in a hot bath. Being snuggled under a blanked with a hot cup of tea and a good book.

Steak and chips with garlic breaded mushrooms. Chocolate: Chocolate Aero, Galaxy, Cadbury's Chocolate Chip Cookies. Ready salted crisps dipped in vanilla ice-cream. Sugared ring doughnuts.

My bedroom: black walls with silver paint splattered all over, black carpet. black curtains, one of my black/white/grey combo duvet sets. My overflowing bookcases.

Sitting by the lake in Victoria Park in Summer, watching the breeze take water droplets from the fountain for a dance on the liquid gold lake surface. Walks in forests, feeling like I've left the world behind and that time has stopped. Days on the beach, building sand castles, listening to the waves, being freezing because of the sea breeze. Seeing rainbows. A night sky full of stars. The moon.

Reading a book for the first time and being completely swept away by the story. Re-reading a book again, and for a second, third, fourth time, and remembering and revelling in the magic. Raving excitedly about books to those who also loved them.

That time a little girl really hugged me round the legs on Christmas Eve at work, so happy, because I was wearing a t-shirt that looks like Father Christmas' coat, and Father Christmas' hat. (Though, although it melted my heart, I was also absolutely terrified because I am at work and a random child is hugging me and oh my god, what do I do?!)

Live music. Good tribute acts. That Meatloaf/one-of-the-Blues-Brothers tribute guy and his female partner. Parties with 80s music. Dancing the whole night away (when drunk enough). Listening to Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey loudly, and trying (but failing) to belt it out along with them. Listening to music on shuffle on my iPhone and the first song that comes on is the most perfect song for that moment. Remembering jiving with my Nan to Jive Bunny's Swing the Mood, and laughing my head off when she would shout, "SPIN! GO!"

Movies. Disney: The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, The Aristocats. The Notebook. Dirty Dancing. My Best Friend's Wedding. You've Got Mail. When Harry Met Sally. Two Weeks Notice. Music & Lyrics. Notting Hill. About Time. All the X-Men. Most of the Die Hard series (I think I'm yet to see one? Two?). Pulp Fiction.

TV. Doctor Who. The Big Bang Theory. Game of Thrones. Stranger Things. Sherlock.

"You know nothing, Jon Snow." "If you're a bird, I'm a bird." "I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested." "Dance with me."

Receiving handwritten letters. Writing handwritten letters.

Playing tourist and exploring London: art galleries, museums, little known attractions. Going to the theatre, especially for a musical.

Games, some of the board variety. The kind that make you think. Pictionary. Taboo. Whodunnit, 221B Baker Street. Charades.

Going out shopping and for a meal and a movie with Mum. Going out for a drink with Dad. Him referring to me as his "drinking partner" since I was 16. Seeing most (if not all) of the family at weddings. Family barbecues. Huge family Christmases.

Texts from friends: "I saw this and thought of you" texts; "I'm thinking of you" texts; texts to make me smile and laugh; texts to support and encourage; everyday, nothingy texts; all the texts. Letters from friends. Sending friends gifts and cards. Visiting friends.

Fun, laughter, and making memories.
