What's Kept Me Smiling #3

This week has been pretty uneventful for me. It's been pretty busy both at work, with Christmas almost upon us, and at home, as I've been tapping away at my keyboard on all of my days off. So when I have had a few hours for myself, they've mostly been spent vegging out in front of the telly. Even so, there have been a few things that brought a little bit of happiness to my week!

Books and Flowers

Adam Thomas in the Stranded Challenge in I'm a Celeb

Aah, I absolutely love this show, and I'm so glad it's back! The whole thing has been keeping me smiling for most of the week, but I have to pick a highlight.

As someone who doesn't like spiders, I could feel Adam's fear as he had to spend who knows how long in a cabin full of them. However, it didn't stop me laughing my head off at the noises he was making. It was absolutely hilarious! TV gold.

A Friend's Good News

Yesterday, a friend of mine told me her brilliant news. She's about to sign a contract for a two-book YA publishing deal! I remember when Zoella's first book came out two years ago, and she said, "If Zoella can write a book, so can I." And that's what she did. She would email me snippets, and it was just brilliant; funny and feminist! Earlier this year she found herself an agent, and now she's got an offer from a pretty awesome publisher! I am completely over the moon for her, and just so excited! It's such wonderful news, and I absolutely cannot wait to have that book in my hands!

Hosting a Reading Challenge

Retellings Reading Challenge 2016

On Once Upon a Bookcase this year, I hosted the Retellings Reading Challenge 2016 - a challenge to read retellings of classic novels, fairy tales, myths & legends, and folk tales - and I'll be hosting it again next year, and I'm so excited! I love the community a reading challenge creates, and how the same books can come up a couple of times, and you can get different perspectives - and discover new books! This week I have been putting together the info/sign up post, so it's now official! And this year it will be bigger and better as each month is being sponsored with giveaways from publishers! I'm really excited, as there are some great prizes up for grabs, and there are so many awesome YA retellings (my personal favourite) coming out next year! I'm really looking forward to it!

Movie Excitement

Have you seen the trailer for Beauty and the Beast yet? Oh my god, it looks incredible! And like it sticks so closely to the original animated movie! (Can I just say that I absolutely love that Disney classics are getting live-action remakes? I LOVE IT!) How about the trailer for the movie adaptation of Fallen? It looks so good, too! Even if none of the characters look how I imagine them, and they seem to have changed a few things. Even so, I'll probably go and see it, despite being disappointed by the final book. And Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is now out, and oh my god, I absolutely cannot wait to see it! I think I'll be seeing it one night next week, but I'm not sure when, and I am dying. I really, really hope it's good, but I'm also a little nervous. Fingers crossed it's not a disappointment!

Christmas Present "Window" Shopping

I've been a bit lax this year in that I haven't even started my Christmas present shopping. Normally, by now, I'll have bought a few at least, but I've been really struggling this year. I think the latter half of the year has gone by so very quickly, that Christmas has kind of snuck up on me. However, I have been starting to think about what I want to get people and have been looking online. I have a few ideas, and I'm starting to feel the excitement that only comes with giving someone a gift. The anticipation of how someone will react when they see what you've got them. I pride myself on being a pretty good gift-giver (except for my dad and my brother, because they are a nightmare to buy for), and always really think about what each person would genuinely love. I've had a few really good ideas, I think, and I'm ready to start buying!

How has your week been? What's kept you smiling over the past seven days?
